Recreation Commission

§ 83-1. Appointment; membership; terms. 

There shall be a Recreation Commission, under authority of MGL c. 45, § 14, as described by the University of Massachusetts Bureau of Government Research, Public Administration Study Number Six. The members of the Recreation Commission shall be appointed by the Selectmen to serve without compensation and shall consist of six members who must be citizens and residents of the town. Commission members shall serve three-year terms, with two members appointed each year, except for the first year when two members shall be appointed for one year, two for two years and two for three years. 

§ 83-2. Duties; exceptions. 

The Recreation Commission shall be charged with assessing the recreational needs of the town and the acquisition, development, management and maintenance of town recreation areas and facilities, with the following exceptions: 

A. The school playground. 

B. The Boiler Equipment Trust swimming area on Amethyst Brook, now under the supervision of the Pelham Athletic Club.
